San Joaquin County levels rose to 53 on Monday, putting the county in a moderate air quality range, due to smoke impacts from a fire on Bradford Island in the north-eastern part. is Contra Costa County.

The health warning will remain in place until the fire is extinguished and the district is warning residents affected by the smoke conditions to stay indoors to limit their exposure to particulate emissions.

The particles can trigger asthma attacks, aggravating chronic bronchitis and increase the risk of heart attack and stroke, according to the district.

For residents who need to go outside, the district recommends using an N95 mask.

The US Food and Drug Administration website states that N95 masks and surgical N95s filter at least 95% of airborne particles and provide a higher level of protection against viruses and bacteria, thus providing protection against COVID-19 and certain air quality conditions.
