Launch of #InhalersHainSahi campaign to intensify dialogue on asthma and adoption of inhalers as appropriate treatment1

Delhi : #InhalersHainSahi – an awareness campaign to dispel asthma myths and fears and encourage asthmatics to live limitless lives, was launched today, under the umbrella of Cipla Limited. The campaign aims to break down the stigma surrounding the use of inhalers, make it more socially acceptable, and foster greater dialogue between patients and their doctors.

According to the Global Burden of Disease Report, “In India, approximately 93 million people suffer from chronic respiratory diseases; of which approximately 37 million have asthma. India contributes only 11.1% of the global asthma burden, however, it accounts for over 42% of all asthma deaths globally, making it the global death capital of the world. asthma2 ”.

According to Dr Vikas Mittal, Associate Director – Pulmonology and Sleep, Max Super Specialty Hospital, Shalimar Bagh, Delhi “It is important to change the perception of asthma and inhalers. While inhalers can play a crucial role in reducing the impact of asthma on people’s lives, adherence is crucial. Inhalers deliver the medicine directly to the lungs and work to control asthma by preventing, relieving symptoms and reducing flare-ups. However, inhalers can only be effective if patients pay attention to their doctor’s advice and follow the prescription.

Addition of Dr Ashish Jain, Principal Consultant – Respiratory Department, Max Hospital, Delhi“The fact remains that the number of people with asthma has increased and we need to do a lot more work in terms of educating patients about appropriate treatment. Although asthma is not curable, it is possible to control it and lead a normal active life. Here, correct treatment and adherence to asthma management is crucial. The Global Asthma Initiative (GINA) guidelines recommend inhalers as a safe and effective way to control asthma because it directly reaches your lungs and starts working immediately ”.

Dr Jaideep Gogtay, Global Medical Director, Cipla, “Continuing education is of paramount importance in chronic diseases like asthma. The #InhalersHainSahi campaign aims to help asthma patients live unstoppable lives through the use of inhalers. Our efforts are to involve people and encourage them to take the necessary actions as directed by their doctors. If attitude and behavior change can be made regarding a disease, we try to achieve this by giving patients more information and understanding about the subject, as well as the means to cope better. #InhalersHainSahi is a movement to understand and accept the use of inhalers without fear or stigma ”.
